Carling cup betting tip - Cardiff win or draw vs Swansea

  • Month starting pot - £100
  • Current pot - £135.38

It’s cup time, which usually provides a few chances for accumulators.  But one bet has actually caught my eye and that is the local (for me) derby between Swansea and Cardiff at the Liberty stadium tonight.

The bookies seem to be favouring Swansea by quite a bit, which surprises me.  Yes the Swans are home and yes they are doing well.  BUT Cardiff are higher in the Championship table than them, the Swans are struggling to get a win right now (2 draws).

Cardiff are sitting just outside the playoff positions with no losses from 7 games, but 5 of the results have been draws.

So draw is the most likely?  Well perhaps.  But Swansea City manager, Roberto Martinez, has stated he is sticking with his policy of rotating the team for the Carling Cup preferring instead to concentrate on the league.  Some fans may be annoyed with this as they will be desperate for any kind of win over their bitter rivals but it does make sense from the clubs perspective, staying in the Championship has to be the main priority this season.

I suspect that this means the Swans will put out nothing more than an average team whereas Cardiff will be looking to start turning draws into wins, even in the cup.  But I am nervous about that as the Swans do have some talented fringe players and the form suggests a draw.

So I am going with Paddy Powers bet of Draw AND Cardiff win at 8/15.  £15 stake on it as I just don’t see a less than full strength Swans managing anything more than a draw in normal time and suspect the Bluebirds may have this one.
